Clavijo Raises Concerns Over Insufficient Information on Catalan Quota and Solidarity Risks
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Aug (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands Government has on Thursday criticised the central administration for its inadequate communication regarding the “Catalan quota” and has cautioned against the potential threat of “undermining solidarity” among the autonomous communities.
While addressing journalists, he confirmed that he was “completely” unaware of the arrangement established with the Catalan “separatists” following the appointment of the socialist Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat.
“We do not believe it is an appropriate resolution, but we are reluctant to assess it until we receive more information, as we must be prudent and refrain from contributing to the excessive noise that characterises the political landscape in Madrid,” he pointed out, mentioning, for instance, “there are companies that are listed and fulfil their financial responsibilities in Catalonia yet conduct a portion of their operations in the Canary Islands.”
Concerning the PGE, he remarked that these are the most vital laws of every legislature since they enable public administrations to “strategise” public expenditure, growth targets, or infrastructure, hence the lack of state accounts would be “unfortunate news”.
He expressed that both the Canarian Government and his party (CC) will “assist” in ensuring the existence of a budget, and if it ultimately does not materialise, they will once again collaborate with the various ministries to maintain the implementation of measures outlined in the ‘Canarian agenda’, particularly in aspects such as hydraulic infrastructure, educational facilities, and initiatives for tourism advancement and employment.
To this end, he anticipates a working meeting with the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, in early September.
